Sundhara

Sundhara was constructed in 1829 AD, in the north-east of Bhimsen Tower, by Queen Lalit Tripura Sundari during the rule of the famous Prime Minister Bhimsen Thapa. The ownership of this spout has been transmitted to the government trust, the Guthi Samsthan. This spout was earlier used by residents and visitors alike for their daily chores such bathing, as well as cleaning and drying of laundry (although regretted now by the locals). Today, the famous stone spout remains locked and inaccessible to visitors (Raimund O.A. Becker-Ritterspach, ‘Water Conduits in the Kathmandu Valley’).
