Ragini Upadhyaya

One of the first printmakers of Nepal, Ragini Upadhyaya’s art represents the complex negotiations between modernity and tradition at the global and the local level. This remains true in the earlier phase of her work in the late 1980s and early 90s and also in the recent shows such as “Time wheel” and “Love in the air.”

The mythological gods and goddesses mix with the contemporary images of computers and mobiles in her recent work. From her show “Myth of Politics” in 1995 to her recent shows Upadhyaya has produced lasting images of political satire; images that use aesthetic representation to satirise contemporary politics and politicians.
