Rato Machhindranath Temple

The Rato Machhindranath Temple: Machhindranath is locally worshipped as the god of rain. To Buddhists, he is the Tantric edition of Avalokiteswora, while to Hindus, he is an avatar of Shiva. Standing in a large courtyard, the three-storey temple dates to 1673, although an earlier temple may have existed on the site since 1408 (www.lonelyplanet.com). The metal roof of the temple is supported by struts, each showing Avalokiteswora standing above figures being tortured in hell.
